Implement

Make your idea a reality. Ensure your solution happens and makes a difference to the people using it. This step is crucial in the framework, but it’s often overlooked. Don’t forget that design thinking isn’t just about coming up with ideas – you must make things happen. It’s not magic; it’s about putting in the work to create real change.

As impactful as design thinking can be for an organization, it only leads to true innovation if the vision is executed. The success of design thinking lies in its ability to transform an aspect of the end user’s life. This final step — implementation — is crucial.

This phase is about making and communicating. Theoretical knowledge is the base; user empathy is the must-have, and feedback from developers or others helps us succeed. Organizing a handover meeting with developers is always helpful, as is presenting a well-thought-through flow with all coroner cases.

This stage also involves creating the product’s visual design, including the layout, color, typography, and other design elements. The user interface design should be consistent with the brand identity and user preferences. A design system is also created, a set of reusable components, guidelines, and standards that ensure consistency and efficiency in the design process.

Consistency across customer touchpoints defines and reinforces a company’s brand and builds expectations in a customer’s mind for future interactions. This is one of the critical ways user experience can contribute to corporate strategy.

The number one enemy of any strategy is poor execution. All across the business landscape, the ability of an organization to execute its UX strategy is one of the most critical elements of success. For an effective strategy, the broad range of elements requiring alignment and implementation makes its successful execution all the more difficult.

However, difficulty with executing a design stems from the range of elements that go into delivering an experience. Because it involves many different factors to create a good user experience, including knowledge from psychology, design, technology, and more. Also, delivering this experience, primarily online, needs teamwork across the whole organization, including customer service, engineering, sales, and more. It’s a complex process that requires many different skills and departments to work together.

It’s important to note that testing and experimentation don’t abruptly end. You can expect additional iterations and modifications to the solution that entail returning to a previous stage. Continue refining until you find a successful solution and implement it. Once you’ve done that, the design thinking process is complete.
